With the awareness of natural birth and its benefits spreading across the globe, more and more women are also turning to natural remedies for pregnancy symptoms. From chiropractic adjustments to herbal tinctures and teas, natural relief for physical ailments in pregnancy is now readily utilized. As the world-wide consciousness shifts, so does the awareness of emotion.

Emotional blockages can to more difficult pregnancies and labors, as evidenced in the FEAR-TENSION-PAIN cycle, where an emotion (fear) causes the body to react (tension and pain).

Midwives everywhere can attest to instances where emotional anxiety and stress in the mother led to a difficult delivery, with outcomes varying from simply having a long, drawn-out labor to an emergency c-section. This isn’t to say that all less-than-ideal outcomes are caused by emotions or beliefs, but there is significant evidence being built in the science and birth communities that high levels of negative emotion or belief has a great impact on our bodies’ abilities to perform optimally.

Just as with physical healing, emotional healing tools are coming to the surface of society. There are numerous methodologies and techniques being practiced all over the world, many coming from eastern cultures. These methods look at the body and mind in a holistic way, meaning that they take into account both physical and mental or emotional conditions before treating, getting a whole picture of an individual, and are thus more effective at producing complete results.

One such methodology is the Bio-Energetic Synchronization Technique, also called B.E.S.T. This technique utilizes muscle-testing and gentle-touch therapy to re-code the brain and re-align the mind and body systems to a state of health and overall wellness. In my experience as a doula and B.E.S.T. practitioner, I have used this technique to help my clients reduce their overall physical and emotional stress in regards to conception, pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. This technique, developed by a chiropractor, is safe for all ages and physical health levels, and incredibly gentle. Brief studies so far conducted show that it is at least as effective as chiropractic care in reducing physical pain and stress.

Some might recognize this technique, among others, as “energy healing.” Many consider it “woo-woo”, or might reject it outright as ineffective without ever having experienced a treatment. The truth is, these treatments can be incredibly effective. In as little as one treatment, I have seen my clients reduce anxiety for labor and motherhood, decrease pain and/or discomfort and reduce feelings of lethargy or depression. Most experience the greatest results after four treatments. During my four pregnancies I’ve personally experienced relief from morning sickness, pelvic/sacral pain, sciatic nerve pain, as well as resolved several concerns with my newborn utilizing this technique.

B.E.S.T. can be used during conception, pregnancy, labor, postpartum periods, and with newborns for the following:
  • Physical Relaxation
  • Stress and Anxiety relief
  • Morning sickness
  • Neck, back, or shoulder pain
  • Painful ligaments or muscles
  • Pelvic pain

  • Healing  from past birth experiences
  • Healing from birth trauma
  • Emotional stress
  • Pre-natal or postpartum Depression
