Why do you want a doula?
Maybe you've heard or experienced "horror stories" of giving birth. The pain, the procedures, the fear, the lack of control and the uncertainty.
You want something different for your birth, for your baby.
You want to birth with complete confidence, even joy.
You want to hand-pick your birth team so you are surrounded by
the people you trust the most.

DURING YOUR BIRTH YOU DESERVE TO FEEL CONFIDENT, SAFE, COMFORTABLE, AND SUPPORTED.
AS YOUR DOULA, I CAN HELP YOU GET THERE.
Most doulas know birth, both at home and in the hospital. Doulas are well-studied and passionate about helping women give birth.
All doulas provide physical and emotional support to you and anyone else one your team, explaining things as they happen along the way and providing alternatives to commonly used hospital interventions so you can have the safe, positive experience you're longing to have with the birth of your baby.
So what makes me different than other doulas you'll meet?
My passion is aiding women in discovering autonomous birth.
My favorite definition of autonomous is: "acting independently or having the freedom to do so."
Most women cannot do this in the hospital. If you're able to achieve that, then more power to you! Even if you have a super-supportive care provider in a hospital setting, you will still have to navigate nurses opinions and hospital policies, which often push unnecessary interventions. Things that should be common sense and are YOUR RIGHT in birth become nearly impossible to obtain, such as:

Going past 40 weeks.
Eating or drinking in labor.
Refusing saline lock (I.V.)
Refusing vaginal exams.
Some women take this a step further and desire to:
Refuse all ultrasounds during pregnancy
Do their own prenatal care
Catch their own baby
Birth without a care provider in the room
Even give birth without hiring a care provider at all.

These intelligent women find themselves ridiculed for supposedly endangering their babies, despite evidence of more positive outcomes at home. They are told by doctors, midwives, and even doulas alike that no one will support them.
But I will.
My focus and my passion is on women planning their births in a setting and with a team that enables them to birth autonomously. That is, that they are the ones calling their shots during pregnancy and labor. My clients give birth mainly at home, sometimes in birth centers and even more rarely at the hospital. There are plenty of incredible doulas who freely support planned hospital births. I choose to focus my support on those who birth outside the system that continues to abuse and belittle birthing women.
As a mother myself I have had two assisted births, one in the hospital and one at home, and three successful unassisted free births. I did my own prenatal care, I gave birth with only my husband and a friend for support. It's an incredible way to give birth, but it's not for every woman. If you are more comfortable at the hospital, I support your decision to birth there! We can meet and see if we are still a good fit, or I will gladly refer you to one of the incredible doulas in our community who more frequently support hospital births.
The most important factor in hiring a doula is finding someone whose philosophies, attitudes, and personality align with your own. I would love to sit down and chat with you about what need having a doula at your birth would fill and to see if i can fill that need for you.

And though sometimes pregnancy and birth do not end up being the exact experience planned and hoped for, a woman who is fully informed, trusted and supported by her birth team, will find her birth empowering
no matter how it happens. I will absolutely attend your birth in its entirety, as you desire, even through a transfer to the hospital if necessary.
